# Accounts

> How your wallet, trading balance, and orders fit together.

A Kuru account keeps track of your trading balances, open orders, and liquidity positions. Your wallet controls the account and authorizes actions such as depositing, trading, and withdrawing.

## Wallet balance and trading balance

Assets in your wallet are separate from assets deposited into Kuru. Depositing moves assets into the exchange's smart contracts and credits your trading account. Withdrawing moves available assets out of the exchange.

Your account balance can be used across markets that accept the same asset. You do not need a separate deposit for every order book.

## Available and committed funds

Some of your balance may be committed to open orders or passive liquidity. Only available funds can be used for a new action or withdrawn.

For example, a buy order reserves the asset you are spending. Canceling its unfilled remainder releases that reservation. See [Balances and Open Orders](/accounts/balances-and-reservations).

## Separating strategies

[Subaccounts](/accounts/subaccounts) let you maintain separate balances and orders under one owner. This can help you keep the funds used by one strategy separate from another.

## Letting a bot trade

You can give another wallet permission to act for your account. This is useful for a trading bot or an application that signs trading actions on your behalf.

Permissions determine what that wallet can do. Read [Trading Permissions](/accounts/signers-and-permissions) before granting access.

To begin funding an account, see [Deposits and Withdrawals](/accounts/deposits-and-withdrawals).
